What we know so far:
According to Suffolk County Police, the janitor was employed through the Suffolk County Department of Labor, working at John S. Hobart Elementary School in Shirley, NY.
On October 3d, 2019 the janitor spoke with the 7 year old girl and asked her about her access to the internet and other devices and the best way she can communicate with him privately, he gave her his phone number.
He left love letters and notes in her desk which authorities found and confiscated.
The yet unnamed janitor was arrested Friday a little after 10am and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. We believe he is unnamed because of the pending case and his age and how he will be charged.
The janitor is under the age of 19 (he is 18) and might be charged as a youthful offender, which means his record can be wiped clean by a judge.
He will be arraigned on October 5th, 2019 at First District Court in Central Islip.
Suffolk county police are urging people to ask their children about any contact they might have had with this janitor and report it immediately. They may call the Seventh Precinct Crime Section at 631-852-8726.
